New Delhi: In a decisive move to combat the capital’s worsening air quality, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the city will soon see the deployment of 460 advanced water sprinkler machines integrated with anti-smog guns. These high-tech machines are part of a broader, year-round dust and pollution control strategy rolled out by the Delhi government.
Speaking after a demonstration of the new equipment at the Delhi Secretariat, CM Gupta said that the initiative is a key component of the city’s fight against air pollution and is backed by special budgetary provisions approved earlier this year. Alongside the 460 sprinklers, the capital will also receive 70 mechanical road sweeping (MRS) machines, 70 litter picker machines, water tankers, and dust dump vehicles—all fitted with cutting-edge technology to improve operational efficiency and reduce pollution at the street level.
CM Gupta highlighted that more than 1,000 water sprinklers will remain active across the city throughout the year, barring the monsoon season. The machines will help maintain cleaner roads and significantly improve air quality by minimizing dust particles in the air.
“The capital’s roads accumulate dust and dirt daily, contributing to deteriorating air quality and impacting public health. This deployment is our response to that ongoing crisis,” said CM Gupta. “Each Assembly constituency will be equipped with high-tech machines to address pollution and street cleanliness comprehensively.”
During the live demonstration, CM Gupta was accompanied by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and senior officials from the Environment Department. The displayed machines included electric and CNG-powered mechanical sweeping machines, litter pickers, and high-pressure water jetting systems—all engineered for enhanced environmental management.
CM Gupta further noted that each machine will be monitored from a central control room to ensure they operate in the right location, at the right time, and with maximum efficiency. The integrated system will use modern features such as GPS tracking, CCTV surveillance, AQI monitors, IoT sensors, mobile applications, and video analytics for real-time oversight.
“The aim is to shift from reactive measures to a consistent, year-round street cleaning operation,” the Chief Minister emphasized. “With the use of these modern tools, we are not just cleaning streets—we are protecting lungs, especially of our children and the elderly.”
A comprehensive cleanliness and dust control plan has already received Cabinet approval, reflecting the administration’s commitment to long-term environmental solutions rather than temporary fixes.
With the rollout of these advanced machines, the Delhi government is aiming to not only tackle visible dust but also reduce the particulate matter that contributes significantly to the city’s air pollution. Officials said these machines will be used for multi-purpose tasks including water sprinkling, garbage collection, and roadside dust removal, helping transform the way street cleaning is handled in the capital.
As Delhi continues to grapple with recurring air pollution crises, especially in the winter months, this initiative signals a robust effort to make clean air a reality for its residents.
