MARGAO: In a swift and decisive action, the Margao Town police arrested a woman from Delhi on Monday for stealing a valuable gold mangalsutra and cash from a fellow bus passenger. The incident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, has highlighted the vigilance and efficiency of the local law enforcement.
The accused, identified as Radha Velhu from Delhi, was apprehended following a complaint filed by Priya Kotkar, a resident of Sao Jose De Areal and originally from Karwar. According to Kotkar’s statement, Radha and her accomplice were traveling in the same bus when the alleged theft took place.
As the bus reached the Calconda junction, Radha and her accomplice allegedly snatched Kotkar’s gold mangalsutra, valued at approximately Rs 3.50 lakh, along with Rs 2,000 in cash. The two women then hastily alighted from the bus, leaving Kotkar in a state of distress.
Acting promptly on the complaint, the Margao Town police launched an investigation and managed to track down Radha Velhu. During the arrest, the police recovered a portion of the stolen cash from her possession. However, the search for Radha’s accomplice is still underway.
Radha Velhu has been remanded in five days of police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao, as the investigation continues to uncover more details about the incident and the whereabouts of the second accused.
This incident serves as a reminder of the need for passengers to remain vigilant while traveling, especially in crowded public transport. The Margao Town police have assured the public that they are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all travelers and will take stringent action against those involved in such criminal activities.
