PANAJI: The AC Milan Grassroots Football Coaching Program, organised by the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) in partnership with Dempo Sports Club, successfully concluded at the Dempo Football Academy in Goa. Supported by Optimax Aces, Events Unlimited, Bhaichung Bhutia, and the Embassy of Italy, the initiative aims to strengthen grassroots football and promote sporting collaboration between India and Italy.
As part of the pilot program, six centres across India were identified to nurture grassroots talent, with Goa serving as a key hub for football development. The week-long coaching session, held from October 13 to 17, 2025, featured training led by AC Milan coaches Annachiara Teboni and Luca Vaccari, who mentored young footballers and academy coaches from Dempo Sports Club.
The closing ceremony at the academy was attended by several dignitaries, including Walter Ferrara, Consul General of Italy in Mumbai; Dr. Caitano Fernandes, President of Goa Football Association; Kapil Kumria of Optimax Aces; AC Milan coaches Teboni and Vaccari; and Arindam Bhattacharya, a mentor during the program. Also present were Shrinivas Dempo, President of Dempo Sports Club, Yatish Dempo, Managing Director, and legendary coach Armando Colaco, who was felicitated for receiving the prestigious Dronacharya Award this year.
Speaking at the event, Shrinivas Dempo highlighted the importance of international collaboration for football development. He said, “Italy is a pioneering country in football, and through grassroots development, coach training, and youth mentorship, India can benefit significantly in competing at the international level. This program represents one such step, and we are proud to recognise the efforts of coaches, players, and supporting staff.” He also congratulated former coach Armando Colaco for his contributions to Indian football and the recognition he received with the Dronacharya Award.
The ceremony acknowledged the AC Milan coaching team and all partners who supported the initiative. Young footballers of the Dempo Academy were commended for their dedication and discipline. The program underscores Dempo Sports Club’s commitment to nurturing football talent in Goa and India, providing aspiring players with opportunities to learn from some of the best coaches in world football.
