PANAJI: Contrary to the usual trend of rising vector-borne diseases during the monsoon, Goa has seen a significant decline in dengue cases this June.
According to data from the Directorate of Health Services, only 10 dengue cases were confirmed in June this year, compared to 60 cases in the same month last year.
The overall dengue count for the first six months has also seen a sharp drop—from 176 cases last year (January to June) to just 43 cases this year.
“This decline is evident in the data. Our focused efforts, including intensive awareness campaigns urging people to keep their surroundings clean and eliminate stagnant water, have paid off,” said Dr Kalpana Mahatme, head of the State’s National Vector-borne Disease Control Programme.
This year, dengue cases were spread over the months as follows: seven in January, nine in February, seven in March, six in April, four in May, and 10 in June. Of the June cases, six were in Mapusa, with one each in Candolim, Siolim, Porvorim, and Aldona.
