VASCO: South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes on Tuesday evening said that there was waterlogging and a rise in Dengue cases in Bogmalo due to failed planning by the Government.
Fernandes was speaking to reporters after carrying out an inspection of the area and meeting the family affected by water logging at Bogmalo.
“In the first place, I saw a video of the family in Bogmalo struggling with water logging and water flowing out from the commode as well. This is a serious concern and I came here with former ZP Gopi Naik and met the affected families as well. After inspection, we realised that all the rainwater gets collected here and the family showed us a drainage that would take all the rainwater away from the area in the past,” he said.
He said what has happened now is that some construction has taken place in the open area which has blocked the drainage and the natural flow out of the area leading to waterlogging in this area.
“The area is now become flooded and slippery and people are facing difficulty in walking through this. There is also a large area of stagnant water which Is giving rise to dengue cases in the area. We have to avoid taking unnecessary construction to please or create a vote bank but we need long-term planning,” he says.
“We will take this issue with the relevant authorities like the health services to take preventive measures against the dengue cases. I will also be talking to the administration to find a permanent solution. We have found a few suggestions that we will place before them and adopt any solution that they have to offer,” said Fernandes.
