CANACONA: Minister Ramesh Tawadkar has reiterated his loyalty to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), clarifying that he has never switched parties despite political setbacks in the past.
“In 2017, I didn’t get the BJP ticket, but that doesn’t mean I changed my party. I never changed my party; I have stayed loyal to it. The ministry is not important to me — whatever work the party assigns, we should do it sincerely and in the right manner,” Tawadkar said while addressing supporters in Canacona.
Tawadkar, who recently returned to the State cabinet after an eight-year gap, has been a prominent BJP face in South Goa, particularly in Canacona. Known for his grassroots connect, he has held important portfolios in earlier governments, including Sports, Tribal Welfare, and Agriculture.
In the 2017 Assembly elections, Tawadkar was denied a ticket, leading to speculation about his political future. However, he remained with the BJP and made a comeback in 2022 when he was elected MLA from Canacona. His loyalty was rewarded when he was appointed Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, and more recently inducted into the cabinet.
