MARGAO: Collector and District Election Officer (South Goa) Egna Cleetus reviewed election arrangements for the upcoming by-election to the 21-Ponda Assembly Constituency, stressing the need to strengthen surveillance and enforcement measures.
The review meeting was held in the presence of Expenditure Observer Sharyu Adhe, SP (South) Santosh Desai, Additional Collector-II Ramesh Gaonkar and Deputy Collector South-I Velton Tellis, along with nodal officers and senior officials from various departments.
During the meeting, the Expenditure Observer directed officials to enhance surveillance by setting up check posts at all entry and exit points and closely monitoring suspicious cash movements. Authorities were also instructed to intensify vigilance against liquor, narcotics and other inducements, and to take prompt action on violations.
Officials reviewed arrangements at polling stations, with emphasis on ensuring Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) and completing pending repairs. Proper handling, dispatch and secure storage of postal ballots were also discussed, with directions for CCTV surveillance and strict monitoring to prevent irregularities.
The security of strong rooms was also reviewed, with instructions for robust arrangements, continuous CCTV monitoring and regulated access. Special focus was placed on accessibility for persons with disabilities and senior citizens, including ramps, wheelchairs and volunteer assistance.
Authorities were further directed to prepare Standard Operating Procedures for the critical 72 hours before polling day and maintain close coordination while strictly adhering to Election Commission of India guidelines.
