Panaji: Goa’s engineering and diploma colleges are reporting remarkable employability figures, with placement rates crossing 90% for engineering and 89% for diploma programs — a clear sign that the state’s academic ecosystem is aligning with industry demands. Over 500 eligible students have secured jobs through on-campus and off-campus drives, reinforcing recruiters’ confidence in the local talent pool.
Yet, behind the strong placement numbers lies an even more interesting trend: a growing number of graduates are opting to create their own career paths. More than 300 students are pursuing higher education, while many others are turning to self-employment, entrepreneurship, and unconventional professions.
This marks a mindset shift — one where young professionals see skills as the real currency. Driven by the demands of a rapidly evolving, tech-driven economy, Goa’s graduates are actively reskilling and upskilling to stay relevant, resilient, and future-ready.
This transformation is no accident. It stems from strategic partnerships between the government, academia, and industry. The Startup and IT Promotion Cell, along with the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, led by Hon’ble Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, has been instrumental in creating an education model that goes beyond exam results to focus on innovation and lifelong learning.
“We are reimagining education not just as a pathway to jobs, but as a platform for lifelong learning. Goa is building a skilling ecosystem that evolves with industry needs — where students are not just graduates, but contributors to innovation,” said Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for IT, Electronics & Communications.
Programs such as the Startup Yatra Bootcamp, Masterclasses, the Goa AI Mission, and industry events like BridgeAura ’25 have become catalysts for applied learning, real-world problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking.
Colleges, too, are playing a proactive role in fostering innovation. Events like TORQUE 2025 — organised by the Mechanical Engineering Students’ Association (MESA) at Goa College of Engineering (GEC) — and IDEAS 3.0 — the intra-college project competition hosted by Padre Conceicao College of Engineering (PCCE) — are giving students hands-on exposure to teamwork, product development, and pitching ideas.
By turning classrooms into launchpads for startups and social enterprises, Goa’s institutions are producing more than just degree-holders — they are nurturing the state’s next generation of founders, builders, and changemakers.
