PANAJI: Desserts and More Avengers and Antruz Strikers secured wins on the opening day of the Alcon GSB Unity Cup T20 cricket tournament, organised by Goa GSB Sports and Charitable Trust in association with Goa Saraswat Samaj at Bandodkar ground, Panjim Gymkhana, on Friday.
Desserts and More Avengers defeated Madgaon Super Strikers, while Antruz Strikers got the better of Canacona Warriors.
Before the start of matches, Ganesh Vandana was performed by Nritya Mitra Sangam. Chirag Naik, Managing Director, Commonwealth Developers, was the chief guest for the opening ceremony.
Aditya Angle, representative (men) of the Cricketers Association of India at Goa Cricket Association, Prathamesh Sukhthankar, director of Shamrao Builders, Goa Saraswat Samaj president Dr. Desh Prabhudesai, Dr. Sagar Salgaocar, Managing Director Geno Pharmaceuticals Private Limited; Balkrishna Miskin and other dignitaries were also present.
A coin specially minted for the toss was unveiled by the dignitaries on the occasion. The competition began with balloons in the air. Goa GSB Sports and Charitable Trust Chairman Siddhit Pai Raiturkar, Secretary Venkat Biche and Treasurer Siddharth Ghanekar were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Goa GSB community is prosperous. Chief Guest Chirag Naik said that the use of Goa GSB Unity is possible for Goa GSB for Other Community in the future.
Aditya Angle appealed to all the players to play with sportsmanship.
“This initiative started by Goa GSB Sports and Charitable Trust is commendable so that the Goa Saraswat community is ahead on all fronts and they should not be left behind in the field of sports as well,” Desh Prabhudesai said. He said it was also possible to set up a sports academy for sportspersons from the Saraswat community in the future.
Dr. Sagar Salgaocar thanked the organisers and said that it is possible to make the event more successful in the future and said that he is always ready for the activities of the community members.
