PANAJI: The explosive revelation caused a daylong uproar, and Director General of Police Jaspal Singh eventually spoke out, saying the accusations against him are unfounded.
“The accusations made against me are absurd, fabricated, and without merit. In response to a query regarding why an SP was required to make a statement regarding the accusations made against the State’s police chief, the DGP stated, “If this were an officially shared document, I would certainly respond but I cannot react to speculative allegations that do not warrant a reaction from the highest authority.”
In response to a further accusation made by suspended Principal Inspector Prashal Desai, who said in a statement to the Chief Secretary that Singh had threatened to incriminate him in a fictitious drug case, the DGP refuted this as well.
“No DGP including me would ever level allegations or threats, as alleged in the speculative report, especially the planting of drugs,” he stated. Singh questioned the creation of the statement report as well.
He went on to deny any connections between his department and the accused Pooja Sharma. “Her lawyer had only once come to the headquarters with a complaint of land grabbing, and it is being investigated by the SIT constituted for Land Grab,” he stated.
“Goa and I have a long history together. I began working here as an ASP in Goa before moving on to become an SP, an IGP, and finally a DGP. I have a close relationship and understanding with the police force and am well-versed in Goa’s social culture,” the DGP continued.
Stating that it was not proper to react to a speculative story, Singh said, “I would like to make it clear that there is no relationship of any kind with Pooja Sharma. She has never visited this headquarters. Her advocate had come to lodge a complaint once.”
“Neither I nor any of my officers do not have any connection to her. She is an ordinary complainant. Ordinary complaint is referred to in field formation and in this case also the same has been done,” the DGP said.
