BICHOLIM: The people from Dhangarwada in Advalpal and the Bicholim express anger over the inundated road leading towards the village.
The road leading towards Dhangarwada Advalpal gets flooded, and the villagers lose contact with the other villages. The problem persists every year, and the government has done very little to solve this issue.
“Government has only laid foundation stones twice of this bridge connecting Dhangarwada, but after that, nothing has happened.” Bicholim block Congress president Meghasham Raut told.
The situation is that older people, women, and children cannot cross the flowing waters and get stranded. Even at times, the medical facility doesn’t reach them, he said.
“Before every election, the politicians lay the foundation stone, but later nothing happens. This bridge is pending for the last many years. The local MLA should answer this else we would agitate in front of his house,” Raut said.
The locals said that they face difficulty while travelling, and it is also risky to travel on flooded roads as the water may rise anytime, and they may get washed away. “It is dangerous to cross the flooded road, and the authorities should understand our problems,” Gharso Varak said, adding “for aged people who travel from here to Bicholim or other surrounding villages, it is hazardous.”
When contacted, the Bicholim MLA and the speaker, Rajesh Patnekar said that he is following up on the issue, and the work on this road is already sanctioned.
“The work of increasing the height of the bridge and the width of its span has already been sanctioned at the cost of Rs 1.47 cr, but could not be undertaken due to onset of monsoon,” Patneakar told.
He further stated that the work of this bridge will be taken up once the monsoon subsides.
“The work on this bridge will be undertaken only after the monsoon,” he said.
