PONDA: Madkai MLA Sudin Dhavalikar on Tuesday demanded a judicial inquiry into Goa’s floods and demanded the resignation of the head of Disaster Management Authority.
Dhavlikar addressing to media, said the first time the worst ever such massive floods happened in Goa.
“Lot of families are homeless, agriculture and plantations damaged and loss is estimated to the tune of several crores,” he stated.
He said that people must know the reasons for flooding, whether the release of dam water in Goa or the release of dam water at Karnataka/ Maharashtra.
“People must know the truth. There must be an inquiry by the government through the retired Judge of High Court to find out causes of flood to prevent the sufferings of flood-affected people in future,” he said.
He said if the inquiry is not conducted, such floods would repeat in the future, and Goan families would be hit again and again.
He also charged that the Disaster Management miserably failed to provide relief.
“Government must provide immediate financial relief to flood-affected people. The head of Disaster Management must resign immediately,” he said.
Dhavalikar said the red alerts were given by IMD in all states, so how the government failed to reach the flood-affected people.
He said it is heard from people that the flood is caused due to the release of dam water.
“This flood is several times more destructive than the 1982 flood,” he said.
Dhavlikar announced that the Madavrao Dhavlikar trust would construct three houses in each village of Savoi Verem, Khandepar and Usgao,” he said.
