“Over the past period, the DHS Goa has successfully conducted over 1.1 lakh breast cancer screenings under the #SwasthaMahilaSwasthaGoa initiative,” said Rane
He further said that this achievement marks a noteworthy milestone in women’s health empowerment. Looking ahead, we aim to surpass 2 lakh screenings in the coming year.
“Early detection remains our top priority as we aim to provide accessible and life-saving care to all women in Goa,” he added
Rane said that Goa’s healthcare in 2024 marks a transformative journey in women’s health. From the launch of the Mobile Cancer Screening Van offering free doorstep screenings to the introduction of the revolutionary Pertuzumab-Trastuzumab therapy, a cutting-edge treatment originally costing Rs 4.20 lakh, now offered free of cost at GMC for HER2+ breast cancer patients, signifies our commitment to provide advanced and accessible care.
“Collaborations with ROCHE Healthcare and Tata Memorial Hospital, alongside the renewed iBreastExam initiative, have already benefited over 1.1 lakh women. With a mission to reach 2 lakh screenings next year, we continue to champion the vision of #SwasthaMahilaSwasthGoa,” he added
Rane also said that Goa has taken a monumental step in the fight against cancer with the launch of the Cancer Screening Abhiyaan this year. This statewide initiative provides free cancer screening aiming to promote early diagnosis and enable timely treatment.
“Through this effort, over 2000 Goans have been screened across nine key locations—Mandur, Valpoi, Curchorem, Sankhali, Canacona, Old Goa, Curtorim, Bicholim, and Marcaim. The screenings included Pap smears, mammography, PSA tests, and oral cancer checks to identify potential cases at an early stage,” minister said
Following the screenings, diagnosed cases are receiving follow-up care diligently provided by specialists at Goa Medical College and Goa Dental College reinforcing our dedication to holistic cancer care.
