MARGAO: Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Varsha Sharma, IPS visited the South Goa district police headquarters to review pending investigations and discuss measures to speed up case disposal.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, DIG Sharma clarified that the visit was a routine exercise aimed at assessing the status of ongoing cases.
She praised South Goa Superintendent of Police Tikam Singh Verma for intensifying the crackdown on narcotics and described the action against drugs as a priority for the police.
Highlighting the department’s approach to crime prevention, Sharma said the force is focusing on multiple strategies, including the preventive detention of anti-social elements.
She stressed the importance of awareness and community participation in ensuring better policing outcomes.
“Increasing crime levels demand proactive measures. Apart from swift investigations, we are also taking steps to keep criminals in check through preventive actions and by working closely with the public,” she stated.
On the issue of fewer women officers at police stations, the DIG assured that the matter would be addressed by the department to improve gender representation in the force.
