PORVORIM: Senior Congress leader turned BJP MLA Digambar Kamat on Wednesday formally took charge as Minister for Public Works Department (PWD), Legal Metrology, and Captain of Ports (CoP) in the Pramod Sawant-led cabinet.
Kamat, who was inducted into the cabinet on August 21, stressed that addressing Goa’s road conditions will be his immediate priority.
Speaking after assuming office, Kamat said the PWD ministry plays a crucial role in infrastructure development, particularly in the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges.
“First, I will review the entire system with the Chief Engineer and others, and then decide my policy. I followed the same approach when I was the Power Minister,” he said.
The minister has directed the Chief Engineer to prepare a detailed report on the condition of all roads across the state.
“By reviewing this report, I will know which roads are in good condition and which are in poor condition. Roads in the worst condition will be given priority,” Kamat assured.
Kamat also announced that he will hold a meeting with PWD officers today to review the state of roads.
“The pothole issue will be resolved,” he promised.
