PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat today has urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to take steps to give Rs 4 lakh compensation for each COVID-19 victim’s family.
“In Goa, innocent CovidPatients died due to mismanagement of BJPGoa Govt. I stand in complete solidarity with our Leader Rahul Gandhi & urge Goa CM to take steps to give ₹4 Lakhs compensation for each Covid Victims family,” said Kamat.
He further said that the welfare model of our Constitution provides our citizens with the basic right to education, health and other essential services. Along with this, our Constitution also empowers every citizen to claim these as Constitutional rights from the State.
“On 11th of September, 2021, the Central Government of India submitted a detailed affidavit in Supreme Court mentioning that it will pay only Rs.50,000 as ex gratia to the families of those affected by the Covid 19 pandemic through. the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF),” he said.
Kamat informed that under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) the compensation amount is shared by the Centre and State in 75%-25%, respectively.
“The Covid 19 pandemic heavily affected the majority of the population in this country. People died untimely deaths, businesses have shut down, people have been forced to migrate,” he added.
The Opposition leader said that the Families have lost their earning members, and the out-of-pocket treatment expenses incurred in private hospitals during the pandemic have brought them to the streets.
