Porvorim: Eighteen women from Socorro took part in a digital empowerment training programme organised at the Ambewada Temple hall in Socorro, Porvorim. The initiative was conducted under the Mahila Digital Sashaktikaran Yojana, a programme designed to strengthen digital literacy among women and encourage greater participation in the digital world.
The training focused on helping participants develop practical technology skills that can assist them in everyday life. Sessions included guidance on basic smartphone operations, navigating digital applications and performing online tasks such as purchasing products through e commerce platforms and paying utility bills digitally.
Participants also learned to use popular social media features such as video calling and creating online groups. Additional guidance was provided on accessing and navigating Goa Online services along with other digital tools that simplify communication and daily activities.
A key part of the programme addressed digital safety. With cyber fraud cases increasing, participants were educated about protecting their personal information while using online services. Special emphasis was placed on safeguarding one time passwords and avoiding financial transactions with unknown individuals on digital platforms.
The Mahila Digital Sashaktikaran Yojana aims to make digital learning accessible to women within their own communities. The programme provides hands on training in using digital devices, exploring online platforms and accessing various e governance services. Training sessions are delivered through Information Technology Knowledge Centres, Common Service Centres and Village Level Entrepreneurs, often conducted in local panchayat halls and community spaces.
The session concluded with active participation and enthusiasm from the attendees. Many women expressed greater confidence in using digital tools for communication, online payments and other daily needs.
More training batches are planned in the coming days, and women from nearby communities are encouraged to participate. Such initiatives are helping bridge the digital gap while enabling women to access government services, engage with the digital economy and support their families through technology driven opportunities.
