PANAJI: The Department of Information and Publicity (DIP) bid farewell to its senior photographer, Shri Silvestre S. Estibeiro, on his superannuation after an illustrious 37 years of service. An alumnus of the Goa College of Art, Altinho, Shri Estibeiro specialized in Applied Art and began his career as a Bromide Printer before rising to the position of Senior Photographer.
Over the years, his work earned him recognition from several media bodies. He was felicitated by the Phonda Patrakar Sangh and Antruz Patrakar Sangh, Ponda in 2014, and in 2024 he received the ‘Patrakar Mitra’ award from Quepem Sanguem Parrikar Sangh, Curchorem, for his contribution to journalism.
Among his major professional assignments were coverage of the three Expositions of St Francis Xavier, the 2014 Lusofonia Games, and the 8th BRICS Summit in 2016, along with several key events of State importance. Beyond photography, Shri Estibeiro is known for his musical talent and contribution to Goa’s Mando tradition. As a member of the Panaji Church choir, he had the rare honour of singing for Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa during their visits to Goa.
He is the son of Shri Custodio Estibeiro, the first official photographer of the then Department of Information and Tourism, continuing a legacy of service to the State.
Speaking at the farewell, Director of Information and Publicity, Shri Dipak M. Bandekar, thanked Shri Estibeiro for his dedicated service and extended warm wishes for his future. Information Officer Shri Allwyn X. Pereira recalled memorable experiences of working with him and wished him good health and long life. Also present were Office Superintendent Shri Sailesh Naik, officials, and staff of the Department.
