PANAJI: The Directorate of Education has made it mandatory for all government, aided, and unaided schools across Goa to prominently display the Child Helpline number 1098 on their premises.
Officials stated that directions have already been issued to all school heads to ensure that the helpline number is displayed at visible locations within school campuses. Authorities have also urged that the number be placed at other prominent public places to increase awareness and accessibility.
The move comes in the backdrop of the Supreme Court of India taking suo motu cognizance of the alarming rise in child rape cases across the country under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The initiative aims to strengthen child safety measures and ensure that children in distress have quick access to support services through the dedicated helpline.
