PANAJI: Ulhas Morajkar, the former sarpanch of Sangolda, filed a civil revision application contesting his disqualification as a panchayat member, but it was dismissed by the Panaji District and Sessions Court.
The Directorate of Panchayat Siddhi Halarnkar’s order disqualifying Morajkar persisted after the application was dismissed because the court did not grant any relief.
In response to a complaint filed by Anand Tulaskar, the Directorate of Panchayat disqualified Morajkar in March of this year with an order for allegedly embezzling Rs 16,10,926 in panchayat funds while he served as sarpanch from 2017 to 2022.
The money was purportedly taken out of the Sangolda Village Panchayat bank account by Morajkar in flagrant violation.
The District Court noted that there is no evidence of illegality, perversity, or arbitrariness in the order issued by the Director of Panchayat.
District Judge 1 of Panaji, Justice Vijayalaxmi R. Shivolkar, stated, “To conclude the impugned order is well founded on the basis of principle of natural justice, reasoning, and applications of law provisions of law and therefore does not warrant any interference by this court.”
