New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand and emotional welcome from the Indian diaspora in Argentina on Saturday, underscoring the deep-rooted cultural ties that transcend borders. Addressing the community in Buenos Aires, PM Modi emphasized that “distance is no barrier” when it comes to preserving and celebrating India’s rich cultural heritage.
“Distance is no barrier when it comes to cultural connect! Honoured by the gracious welcome from the Indian community in Buenos Aires,” PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter). “It is truly moving to see how, thousands of kilometres away from home, the spirit of India shines brightly through our Indian community.”
PM Modi’s visit to Argentina is part of his ongoing five-nation tour, and marks a historic moment as it is the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years. He is visiting the country at the invitation of Argentine President Javier Milei.
Upon his arrival at Ezeiza International Airport, the Prime Minister was given a ceremonial welcome. Excited members of the Indian community gathered in large numbers, waving Indian flags and chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Modi-Modi”.
At the hotel, PM Modi was welcomed with a traditional Indian dance performance, reflecting the strong presence of Indian culture in the South American nation. He warmly interacted with several members of the diaspora, many of whom expressed pride in India’s growing global stature.

Akhilesh Verma, a member of the Indian community in Buenos Aires, shared his excitement:
“It was a wonderful feeling to meet PM Modi. We are delighted to see him here. We hope ties between India and Argentina – both culturally and commercially – continue to grow and flourish.”
India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called the visit a “new chapter in India-Argentina relations.” In a post on X, he wrote:
“Celebrating the enduring friendship between our nations. PM Narendra Modi has landed in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires. This historic visit will deepen our bilateral ties.”
PM Modi’s visit is expected to include high-level meetings aimed at boosting cooperation in trade, culture, and strategic partnerships, strengthening the India-Argentina relationship for years to come.
