Team Goemkarponn
PISSURLEM: A distillery located at the Pissurlem Industrial Estate was sealed early by a Gujarat Excise Department team for allegedly flouting regulatory norms related to liquor transportation.
Sources revealed that the unit had dispatched a consignment of liquor to Gujarat nearly two weeks ago, but failed to adhere to the required guidelines laid down by the Gujarat excise authorities. The consignment, valued in lakhs, was seized in Gujarat, and the truck driver was taken into custody.
Following the seizure, a Gujarat Excise team accompanied by the detained driver arrived in Goa on Tuesday evening to conduct a detailed inspection of the distillery premises. The investigation continued from 6 pm on Tuesday till 5 am Wednesday. Officials reportedly examined warehouse records and seized several documents before sealing the facility.
Notably, the local Valpoi Excise Office claimed it had no prior information about the action taken by their Gujarat counterparts, pointing to a possible communication gap between state departments.
The Gujarat team later returned with the confiscated documents as the probe continues.
