“PM Modi Promises ‘Double Diwali’ with GST Reforms, Pledges Stronger Security and Tech Growth by 2047”
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked his 12th consecutive Independence Day address from the Red Fort with a blend of festive promise and national resolve, announcing next-generation GST reforms this festive season calling it a potential “double Diwali” for citizens.
The Prime Minister said the upcoming GST changes will further ease compliance and reduce tax rates on essential items, adding to the tax relief measures implemented over the past eight years. “Our aim is to make life easier for the common man while ensuring the economy remains strong,” he said.
Festive cheer meets strategic resolve
While the announcement of tax relief brought a festive glow to the speech, Modi’s address went far beyond economics. He laid out a roadmap for a self-reliant and secure India, pledging to transform the nation into a developed country by 2047.
‘Daam Kam, Dum Zyada’ for global markets
Emphasising India’s manufacturing potential, Modi urged industries to focus on competitive costs without compromising quality. His mantra, “Daam Kam, Dum Zyada” (lower price, higher quality), was positioned as the key to ruling world markets and achieving Atmanirbhar Bharat goals.
No compromise on security
In one of the most striking moments, Modi vowed that India would never bow to nuclear blackmail, warning adversaries that “blood and water will not flow together” in reference to the Indus Waters Treaty. He also praised the armed forces for their decisive action in Operation Sindoor following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, where terrorist infrastructure across the border was destroyed.
Tech and space ambitions
Highlighting India’s progress in high-tech sectors, Modi announced that “Made-in-India” semiconductor chips would be available by the end of the year. He also celebrated the growth of over 300 startups in the space sector and revealed plans for India’s own space station, framing technology as central to strategic independence.
Farmers’ interests protected
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that no policy or international agreement would be allowed to harm farmers, cattle rearers, or fishermen, calling their welfare the foundation of economic resilience.
The 2047 promise
Concluding his speech, Modi struck an aspirational chord: “Naa hum rukenge, naa hum jhukenge. India will become a developed country by 2047 this is my promise.”
With the combination of festive economic relief and a bold strategic vision, Modi’s Independence Day message sought to reassure citizens that growth, security, and prosperity will move hand in hand in the years ahead.
