Margao: In the interest of public safety, the District Magistrates of South Goa and Kushavati have issued orders prohibiting the use, bursting, ignition or operation of fireworks, sparklers, pyrotechnic devices, flame effects, smoke generators and similar fire or smoke-producing equipment inside tourist establishments and enclosed premises across the two districts.
The prohibition applies to nightclubs, bars and restaurants, hotels, guesthouses and resorts, beach shacks, temporary structures, event venues and entertainment establishments, and is binding on all organisers, event managers, individuals and institutions operating within these premises.
The orders clarify that the ban will not apply to religious shrines, including temples, churches, mosques, gurudwaras and other recognised places of worship, where traditional lighting or ritual practices are carried out in accordance with customary norms.
In exceptional cases, the District Magistrate or an authorised officer may grant prior written permission for indoor pyrotechnics, subject to the submission of a detailed safety and risk-mitigation plan along with all required compliance documents.
The orders came into force on February 09, 2026, and will remain effective for a period of 60 days (both days inclusive) unless withdrawn earlier.
All Deputy Collectors and Sub-Divisional Magistrates of South Goa and Kushavati have been authorised to verify violations of the orders and to file FIRs at the concerned police stations and lodge complaints before the jurisdictional Judicial Magistrate.
