MARGAO: District Magistrate, South Goa, has issued an order mandating tenant verification and stricter security measures across the district.
All owners and managers of houses, flats, hotels, lodges, shacks, guest houses, paying guest facilities, and religious institutions offering temporary accommodation must verify the identity of occupants using valid ID proofs such as Aadhaar, Election Card, Passport, Driving License, or Smart Card.
No property owner or landlord is permitted to rent or sublet premises without furnishing tenant details to the Officer-in-Charge of the respective police station. Accommodation providers must also maintain records open for inspection by police or authorized officials.
The order further directs all heads of nationalized banks in South Goa to deploy round-the-clock security guards at ATMs and ensure installation of CCTV cameras or ESS (Electronic Survey Systems) with panic buttons, hooters, two-way communication, and remote monitoring systems.
The directive came into effect on November 5, 2025, and will remain valid for 60 days unless withdrawn earlier. Any violation will attract punishment under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
