Do not tolerate dictatorship, injustice will be repeated again and again: Dr. Uday Gaonkar

CANACONA: In democratic India, known as the best in the world, every Citizen is given rights and independence. The reservation system is adopted due to the caste distinction in the society; while demanding your rights, if any person threatens the people to establish his own supremacy, do not tolerate it because once tolerated, the person who does injustice will continue to do injustice again and again’, Dr. Uday Gaonkar.
Dr. Gaonkar who is also UTAA Secretary, was speaking at the meeting organized by UTAA at Yedda-Cotigao on Wednesday. Incidentally, UTAA is holding awareness meetings at different parts of ST areas all over the State of Goa, and Wednesday’s meeting at Yedda is part of the same strategy to bring awareness of the various rights of ST people.
“It’s our right to live with dignity. When I wrote the book myself, many accusations and complaints were also made against me. Some people who consider themselves to be big leaders are constantly afraid that someone will become bigger than them. So, everyone should not tolerate oppression and injustice and should stand up with self-respect for their rights”, Dr. Gaonkar said.
Poinguinim Zilla Panchayat Member Shobhana Velip said that she was previously working in the cooperative sector but after getting elected to the Zilla Panchayat, she has experienced various aspects of society.
“Today the development of the tribal society is stuck because of the tribal leaders themselves. It was in 2011, that many tribal organizations came together and formed the UTAA organization with a common aim and a big protest was held by the organization at Balli on 25th May 2011, when two of our youths were killed. The leaders who played a major role in that are left behind saying they have nothing to do with the UTAA organization. Today one says no relation between UTAA and me’, a retired teacher Arjun Gaonkar expressed the opinion that it is because of this kind of policy that the society is destroyed.
Molu Velip from Shiroda expressed the opinion that only when every person joins in various activities happening in society, social consciousness is created in people and everyone becomes aware of their rights.
‘When the society works, the public gives its acknowledgement and one day the public will teach a lesson to those who play strategic games in the name of social work because the people are supreme in a democracy’, Velip explained while introducing the program on the concept of “UTAA”.
Khotigao Ex-Sarpanch Daya Gaonkar guided the members to remain vigilant on atrocities taking place within the community.
Ulhas Gaonkar, Bhootnath Velip and Ashok Gaonkar requested that when various programs are held in the name of society, there is a need to plan active activities to educate the society or create social consciousness and not just give speeches and talks.
