PANAJI: Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo made an emotional appeal in the Goa Legislative Assembly, urging the government and planning authorities to protect the green areas of her constituency and to strictly cap the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) at 60 per cent for all new developments in Siolim.
With folded hands, Lobo pleaded that no permissions should be granted to increase FAR beyond 60 per cent, warning that unregulated construction was already placing unbearable pressure on local infrastructure, especially water supply.
“Please do not touch the green zones of Siolim. People are already suffering because of water scarcity. If more buildings are allowed with higher FAR, the situation will become unmanageable,” she told the House.
The MLA said that several areas in Siolim are facing acute water shortages, with residents depending on tankers and irregular supply, while low pressure has become a daily complaint. She stressed that allowing higher FAR would only lead to more population density without matching upgrades to water pipelines, storage facilities and treatment capacity.
