Panaji: Assuring residents that household cooking gas will remain available, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said the State has sufficient LPG quota for domestic consumers, even as supplies to the commercial sector have been severely curtailed.
Speaking after chairing a high-level review meeting with officials from the Civil Supplies Department, police authorities and representatives of oil marketing companies, Sawant stated that around 80 per cent of LPG meant for commercial establishments has been affected, while industrial LPG connections have been temporarily suspended.
The Chief Minister explained that the restrictions are part of emergency fuel allocation measures issued by the Central government to ensure uninterrupted availability of cooking gas for households. As a result, only about 20 per cent of the usual LPG supply is currently available for commercial usage, with priority being given to domestic consumers.
Despite the supply adjustments, Sawant reassured the public that household LPG availability in Goa remains stable and the situation is expected to normalise within about eight days.
“There is adequate LPG quota for domestic users in the State. People should not panic or rush to agencies. There is a 25-day booking cycle, and cylinders will be supplied accordingly,” he said.
The Chief Minister also appealed to consumers not to hoard cylinders or maintain multiple connections, warning that misuse could worsen the situation. Citizens were urged to avoid unnecessary queues outside LPG distribution centres.
Meanwhile, Sawant said piped natural gas (PNG) supply will continue without disruption, and encouraged residents to either restore inactive PNG connections or apply for new ones as an alternative cooking fuel option.
To improve distribution management, the State government has directed all LPG distributors to start accepting online bookings for domestic cylinders from 2 pm onwards. Consumers have been advised to visit agencies only after completing the booking process.
Officials from major oil marketing companies — Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited — were present at the meeting.
Sawant added that police personnel and Civil Supplies officials will closely monitor the situation and submit daily reports to the government until supply conditions stabilise.
