PANAJI: In a highly competitive and visually appealing final of the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Football Women Championship organised by Goa University at University Ground, Taleigao Plateau held
on 25th September 2024, Don Bosco College, Panjim triumphed over the defending champions, Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim, securing the championship trophy with a final score of 2-0.
The first half saw both teams engaging in a balanced contest, with each side making efforts in attack and defence to secure the initial goal. However, despite numerous attempts, the score remained 0-0 as both defences held firm. Don Bosco College demonstrated effective short-passing skills, maintaining possession in the opponent’s half, yet struggled to convert their opportunities into goals.
The second half commenced with a similar intensity, as both teams sought to gain the upper hand. In the 70th minute, Don Bosco College broke the deadlock when a shot from Ms. Flani Costa slipped through the goalkeeper’s grasp and found the back of the net. Rosary College made every effort to equalize and to prevent further scoring from Don Bosco, but in the 84th minute, Blessica Rodrigues struck again, sending the ball into the net after it deflected off a defender.
Best Player of the championship was awarded to Ms. Swellen Fernandes of Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim.
The valedictory ceremony was honoured by the presence of Chief Guest Milton Fernandes, the former Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University. The event also featured Guest of Honor Dr. Francis Lobo, the College Director of Physical Education and Sports at Rosary College, along with Ms. Synora Picardo, College Director of Physical Education and Sports at Carmel College, Ryan Pereira, College Director of Physical Education and Sports at Don Bosco College, Panjim, and Ms. Jeromica Culaso, a football coach along with Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University.
Together, they presented medals and trophies to the finalists.
