PANAJI: Don Bosco College’s Department of Mass Communication & Journalism, in collaboration with its Film Club ‘Cinemaniacs’, organized the fourth edition of its two-day cinematic festival, Cinemania: Phase Four, on October 9 and 10, 2025. The festival featured an interdepartmental competition on the first day for college students, followed by an intercollegiate showdown on the second day, with ten colleges from across Goa participating.
The inaugural day commenced with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony attended by Chief Guest and veteran film critic Mr. Sachin Chatte, College Director Rev. Fr. Kinley D’Cruz, Principal Dr. Cedric Silveira, and Faculty In-Charge Asst. Prof. Agnelo D’Souza, along with student coordinators Stella Lopes, Herman Noronha, Siddharth Kittur, and Aakanksha Bakhale. In his address, Mr. Chatte emphasized the power of cinema to educate, entertain, and inspire storytelling, highlighting that films should evoke emotion and connection.
Day One saw interdepartmental teams competing in creative and performance-based events organized by the Cinemaniacs. Highlights included Lord of the Frames (poster designing and mascot presentation), What If? (acting with a twist), Genres of the Galaxy 2 (costume showdown based on film genres), and Any Dept Can Dance 2, where teachers performed alongside students. Off-stage competitions such as Blockbuster Quiz, The Great Debaters, Final Cut (trailer editing), and the popular Teachers’ Quiz further tested participants’ knowledge and skills. By the day’s end, Team I.T. from the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism retained their title as Overall Champions, while the Department of Computer Applications emerged as runners-up. The day concluded with a vote of thanks by Club Secretary and Event Head Stella Lopes, setting the stage for the intercollegiate contests on Day Two.
The second day kicked off with a red-carpet inauguration featuring Chief Guest Mr. Christ Silva, award-winning filmmaker of Connection and Crazy Mogi. Mr. Silva encouraged students to blend cultural storytelling with cinematic experimentation. Rev. Fr. Kinley D’Cruz also addressed the audience, highlighting cinema’s cultural impact and congratulating the organizers for delivering an event of such scale. The ceremonial lamp-lighting and clap officially marked the opening of Day Two.
The intercollegiate competitions saw teams representing celebrated film directors, performing in events like Action Replayy (ice-breaker video), MisMatched 3.0 (acting with crossovers), and Flopbuster, where teams defended critically unsuccessful films. Off-stage challenges like Blockbuster Quiz, Poster No. 1 (poster editing), and Absolute Cinema (five-hour filmmaking challenge) tested both creative and technical abilities. The afternoon featured dance competitions inspired by iconic performers, culminating in the grand Costume Showdown – The Greatest Showman, themed around famous film directors. Mr. Swayam Padwal and Ms. Suhani Naik from Dhempe College, Miramar, were crowned Mr. and Ms. Cinemania for their portrayals of Chota Pandit and Monjolika.
The festival concluded with Faculty In-Charge Asst. Prof. Agnelo D’Souza thanking the management, sponsors, faculty, and student volunteers for their support. Team Priyadarshan from Dhempe College, Miramar, emerged as the overall champions, while Team Christopher Nolan from Rosary College of Commerce and Arts finished as runners-up.
