PANAJI: Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda emerged champions of the Goa University Inter Collegiate Men’s Tennis Championship 2025–26 after a thrilling final victory at the Fatorda Sports Complex in Margao. The two day tournament was held on January 20 and 21 and featured competitive performances from colleges across the state.
In the final encounter, Don Bosco College of Engineering defeated Padre Conceicao College of Engineering, Verna by a narrow 2–1 margin to clinch the title. The contest lived up to expectations, with both teams displaying high quality tennis and strong fighting spirit.
The opening singles match saw Don Bosco’s Deion Braganca Pereira set the tone with a commanding performance, defeating Brullino Fernandes of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering by 6–1. The second singles match swung momentum in favour of the Verna side as Punit Fadte produced a dominant display to overcome Raoul Vas of Don Bosco College of Engineering by an identical 6–1 scoreline.
With the title on the line, the deciding doubles match proved decisive. Don Bosco College of Engineering pair Raoul Vas and Ronald Fernandes held their nerve under pressure to defeat Punit Fadte and Brullino Fernandes 6–3, sealing the championship in style.
Despite finishing runners up, Padre Conceicao College of Engineering’s Punit Fadte was recognised for his outstanding performance throughout the competition and was named the Best Player of the tournament.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by senior sports administrators and college officials. Medals and trophies were presented to the winners and finalists in the presence of distinguished guests, marking a fitting conclusion to the championship.
Earlier in the semi finals, Padre Conceicao College of Engineering defeated Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim by 2–1, while Don Bosco College of Engineering overcame St Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim Mormugao by a similar margin. A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament, highlighting the growing standard and popularity of collegiate tennis in Goa.
The title win underlined Don Bosco College of Engineering’s depth and consistency, as they showcased teamwork and composure to emerge as deserving champions of the season.
