PANAJI: The women’s handball team of Don Bosco College, Panjim delivered a commendable performance to finish third at the Goa University Inter Collegiate Women’s Handball Championship held on March 2 and March 4, 2026 at the Goa University Ground. The tournament featured participation from 20 colleges, creating a highly competitive atmosphere and displaying impressive levels of skill and sportsmanship.
The team began their campaign with a walkover in the opening round after Narayan Zantye College, Bicholim did not report for the scheduled match. Moving directly into the quarterfinal stage, the players made a strong impact with a confident display against P.C.C.E. College of Engineering, Verna. The match saw Don Bosco College dominate with disciplined play, effective coordination, and well planned strategies that ultimately secured them a convincing victory.
Their progress to the semifinal set up a challenging encounter against Rosary College, Navelim. The match proved to be intense and closely contested, with both sides displaying determination and strong defensive play. Don Bosco College fought hard throughout the game and managed to stay competitive until the final moments. However, Rosary College edged ahead in the closing stages, resulting in a narrow 3 to 2 defeat for the Panjim side.
Despite the semifinal loss, the team secured an impressive third place finish in the championship. Their consistent performances and fighting spirit throughout the tournament reflected the dedication and preparation of the players.
The achievement stands as a proud moment for Don Bosco College and highlights the institution’s continued commitment to encouraging excellence in sports while maintaining a strong focus on academics. The team’s success also demonstrates the growing standard of women’s handball at the collegiate level in Goa.
