PANAJI: In a thrilling display of basketball prowess, Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, and Don Bosco College, Panjim, emerged as the champions in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively, at the intercollegiate basketball championships organized by Goa University. The tournament, held from February 4 to 7, 2025, at the Manohar Parrikar Indore Stadium in Navelim, saw intense competition among the participating colleges.
The men’s final was a high-scoring affair, with Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, securing a convincing victory over St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, with a final score of 85-64. In the women’s final, Don Bosco College, Panjim, outplayed St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, winning by a margin of 51-41.
In the semifinals, Don Bosco College, Panjim, had a dominant performance in the women’s section, defeating PCCE, Verna, with a score of 36-0. St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, edged out S. S. Dempo College, Cujira, with a score of 23-19. On the men’s side, Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, defeated S. S. Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, 47-31, while St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, beat Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, 55-30.
The Best Player awards were given to Tanish Lotlicar from Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, in the men’s category, and Sarah Hussain from Don Bosco College, Panjim, in the women’s category. The presentation ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Spencer Viegas, a former national basketball player and lawyer, Dr. Manoj Hede, College Director of Physical Education & Sports at Kare College of Law, Dr. Michael Dias, College Director of Physical Education and Sports at S. S. Dempo College, Cujira, and Balachandra B. Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University.
The winning teams were comprised of talented players, with the Don Bosco College, Panjim women’s team including Shimron Nathan, Aroshi Govekar, Yukta Mahato, Shaina Almeida, Rhea Pires, Blessica Rodrigues, Sarah Hussain, Kavita Kumari, Britney Laurianabarreto, Mariyam Shaikh, Megan Pereira, and Sania Shaikh. The men’s team from Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, included Vanosh Fernandes, Gabinaz Pires, Aaron Rodrigues, Anish Barreto, Luke Fernandes, Malcolm Antão, Varun Castello, Hrishikesh Naik, Cavan Serrao, Leonardo Vaz, Aaryan Raut, and Tanish Lotlicar.
