CANACONA: Inaugurating the first of its kind Public Awareness program on ‘Fortified Rice’ organized by Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs, in Canacona, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar asked the people not to fall prey of believe to the Opposition led false Propaganda as PDS supplied ‘Plastic Rice’.
Speaking after inaugurating the awareness camp by the Canacona Taluka office of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (CSCA), Canacona MLA and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tavadkar categorically appealed to all present not to fall prey to this propaganda started by the opposition.
Speaking further Tawadkar appealed saying, ‘This rice is nutritious and people should use it. The Civil Supply is the only department in Goa that reaches to the needs of the common man’.
Earlier, Canacona CSCA Inspector Ulhas Velip, explained that the Fortified rice supplied to the PDS Consumers is a mixture of Vitamin B12, Iron and Folic Acid. ‘This rice increases the immunity of the body and particularly this rice is very important from the point of view of health. Infact, this rice is highly enriched and is very good for the health of people particularly Women and Children’.
Velip explained while speaking at the public awareness camp held in the hall of Shri Balaram Residential School in Amone (Poinguinim), attended by the Balram Education Society Run school students and teachers, besides the Public Distribution Shop owners. Velip also explained through audio visuals as to how the fortified rice are prepared and later mixed in a proportion of 10 grams of Fortified Rice to 1 Kg of normal Rice.
Besides, the CSCA officials including Assistant Inspector Satish Goankar, Electricity Department Assistant Engineer Govind Bhat, (Retd) Executive Engineer Santosh Lolyekar, S Balram Residential School acting Headmistress Vandana Gaonkar.
The program was moderated by student representative Anuja Vagonkar. Satish Gaonkar proposed a vote of thanks.
