Taunting the Opposition that there is still enough time for the elections in 2022, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday ripped through the Opposition leaders saying that they are creating unnecessary panic amongst the people of Goa as they have no issues to fight the government.
He also criticized the Opposition leaders for violating the social distancing norm on the floor of the House.
“We talk of social distancing, but here in this august House the Opposition leaders have violated the same. What example are they trying to set to the people of Goa?” he asked.
Rane also demanded that those spreading fake news and creating panic need to acted upon.
“Don’t do politics in the name of COVID19. Politics can be done later,” he said.
He said that those criticizing government on COVID19 management have never come forward to give written suggestions.
“I know improvements are required in COVID hospitals which will be done as required. Also, on treatment, we need to follow ICMR rules for treatment and cannot administer our own,” he said.
He said that every minister in the government is working from the field but those who are criticizing are doing so by sitting at home through video conferencing.
“I asked them to come with me to the COVID hospital but they don’t instead but they even spread fake news that I was trying to topple the government when I went to COVID Care Centre. I want to tell them if they do not have issues please does some home work. I want to tell the Opposition there is still time for elections 18-19 months. Have patience till then,” he said.
On information being spread regarding his alleged differences with CM, Rane said, “We have no egos we all work as a team, be it CM, CS, health Secretary or me, we work as one team.”
The Health Minister said that it is very easy to criticize, but that has to be constructive and not destructive.
“Today I tweeted about Cleofasio being discharged and moved to GMC but the Opposition says the treatment is given only to VIPs. Let me tell them we treat each patient similarly and do not differentiate,” he said.
On the deaths and rising cases, Rane said that he is sorry for 35 deaths that have taken place.
“It feels really bad when we hear death of a 14 year old girl but despite creating so much awareness we are not getting response from the people. People are not doing testing despite having symptoms for days,” he said.
He said that he acknowledges that cases are increasing but we have to understand that Goa cannot be insulated from what is happening around the country.
“Our recovery rate is over 65 p.c and mortality is just 0.7 p.c, which is much lower than the national rate,” he said.
Further, he said the States across India are finding difficult to deal with financial condition.
“It’s just not Goa, this is because the revenue collection has dropped as there is no economic activity taking place,” he stated.
