PANAJI: The ‘Double Engine Government’ has been exposed in Goa over its true intentions behind the double railway tracking project, which is actually meant to transport coal for Adani, Jindal, and their crony capitalist friends. Interestingly, these companies owe over ₹4,000 crores in Green Cess, which the BJP government has failed to recover.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had misled the people of Goa, claiming the project was for tourism growth, but the Central Government has now revealed its true purpose – coal transportation.
People, along with MLAs, protested against the project in a historic demonstration at Chandor. However, some MLAs who switched sides by joining the BJP seem to be supporting the destruction of Goa by facilitating coal transportation. They need to clarify their stance.
Former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had expressed his opposition to double tracking and coal transportation, but the ‘double engine’ government has pushed it forward despite local opposition.
The government has also failed to regulate coal handling at Mormugao Port Authority (MPA). This expansion will only lead to Goa’s destruction, turning it into a coal hub with 43 million metric tonnes of coal per year, equivalent to 4.3 crore truckloads of 10 tonnes each. This will severely pollute our state.
I urge the people of Goa to support the campaign against coal transportation and save our beautiful state.
The people of Cansaulim, Issorcim, and Sancoale in Mormugao Taluka are being forced to sacrifice 6,000 square meters of their land for this project. The government’s call for objections appears to be a mere formality, as they’re determined to push this destructive project forward, disregarding the state’s natural beauty and people’s interests.
