PANAJI: Goa Medical College’s Acting head of Cardiology Department Dr Manjunath Desai passed away this morning following chronic illness.
Dr Manjunath, a well known cardiologist, who saved thousands of lives, was battling a chronic illness, sources said.
The news of Dr Manjunath’s death spread like wild fire this morning and messages started pouring in on social media.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant led in paying rich tributes to Dr Manjunath.
“Saddened to learn about demise of eminent Cardiologist Dr. Manjunath Desai of Goa Medical College & Hospital. His Medical skills saved lives of thousands of patients. My deepest condolences to his family. Om Shanti,” he said.
“Deeply saddened & shocked to hear about the demise of Dr Manjunath Desai. It is not only a loss to Goa Medical College & Hospital, it is a personal loss to me. He was an exceptional and wonderful person inside-out who has touched so many lives & saved many precious lives. A great loss for the state of Goa, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane wrote.
He added, “We will miss Dr Manjunath!
From the bottom of my heart, I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Dr Manjunath. I pray that the Almighty gives them strength to bear this great loss. I just cannot get over this. No words to express or console the family. I still cannot believe Dr Manjunath is not between us.”
Former Dy CM Sudin Dhavalikar wrote, Deeply saddened by the demise of one of our most efficient doctors and life saver Dr. Manjunath Desai. He will always be remembered for his efforts to make GMC’s cardialogy department as one of the best in India and saving thousands of lives. May God give strength to family and friends to bear this loss”.
Minister for Waste Management Michael Lobo said “Deeply shocked and saddened to hear about the sudden demise of Dr. Manjunath Desai, a dear friend and a renowned cardiac surgeon who saved many lives with his service. May the departed soul rest in peace and may God give his family more strength to bear this loss. Om Shanti.”
