PANAJI: Dr. Sai Gautam Gopalakrishnan, Associate Professor of Materials Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has been named the recipient of the Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award 2025. He leads a research group in computational materials science at IISc.
This is the third edition of the prestigious national award instituted by the Government of Goa to inspire young scientific minds in Goa and across India to pursue excellence in science for the benefit of humanity.
A total of 50 applications were received from leading research institutes across the country. After rigorous evaluation, 10 candidates were shortlisted for personal interviews. Following an intense scrutiny process by an expert committee chaired by eminent scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Dr. Gopalakrishnan was selected as the final awardee.
The award carries a cash prize of ₹5 lakh and a citation, making it the highest cash prize in the field of science and technology in the country.
The award was formally presented during the Manohar Parrikar Vigyan Mahotsav to be held at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) today.
On the occasion, Chief Minister presented the Manohar Parrikar Yuva Scientist Award 2025 to Dr. Sai Gautam Gopalakrishnan, Associate Professor of Materials Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, where he leads a research group in computational materials science.
Former Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Dr. Kiran Kumar, Former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, Govt. of India, Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Secretary (Science, Technology and Waste Management), P. Pravimal Abhishek, IAS, Chairman of Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Celebration Committee, Jose Manuel Noronha, Director, Science, Technology and Waste Management, Harish Adconkar and others were also present.
