VASCO: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Goa State Branch, on Sunday held its State Installation Ceremony at BITS Goa, formally installing Dr Sharada Mulgaonkar Patil as the new president for the ensuing term. The ceremony was attended by senior doctors, past IMA office-bearers and distinguished guests, marking a significant moment for the medical fraternity in the state.
Addressing the gathering after assuming office, Dr Patil announced the theme for her tenure — “Embracing Neurodiversity – Together We Care, Connect and Champion.” She underlined the importance of recognising neurodiversity as a natural variation of the human brain and called for a more empathetic and inclusive approach in healthcare delivery.
“Individuals with conditions such as autism, ADHD and learning disabilities often face barriers within the healthcare system. As doctors, it is our collective responsibility to ensure care that is sensitive, accessible and inclusive. Together, we must care, connect and champion the needs of every individual,” Dr Patil said.
The installation ceremony was graced by Health Secretary Yetindra Maralkar, IAS, Dean of BITS Goa Meenal Kaushik, along with senior members of the medical fraternity and former IMA leaders. Their presence reflected unity within the association and a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare services in Goa.
The newly installed office-bearers reiterated their focus on ethical medical practice, continuous medical education, doctor welfare and public health advocacy. With the new leadership taking charge, IMA Goa State said it aims to deepen professional collaboration among doctors while working towards compassionate, inclusive and high-quality healthcare for society.
