Panaji: The Mamlatdar of Tiswadi has confirmed that both the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium and the Goa Athletic Stadium fall within the jurisdiction of Santa Cruz village, Tiswadi Taluka, under the 13-Santa Cruz Assembly Constituency.
The clarification comes following a representation made by Inacio Domnic Pereira, a panchayat member from Santa Cruz, who had raised the issue with the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), alleging injustice to the local village. Acting on his complaint, the Sports Authority had sought verification from the Mamlatdar regarding the jurisdiction of the two prominent stadiums.
Speaking to reporters, Pereira said the confirmation by the Mamlatdar is a matter of pride for the people of Santa Cruz, as well as those from Merces and Chimbel, all of which are part of the Santa Cruz constituency. He urged the Sports Authority to officially announce the jurisdiction at the earliest.
“This is not just about boundaries; it’s about giving due recognition to the villages whose identity is tied to these important sports facilities,” Pereira stated.
There was no immediate response from the Sports Authority of Goa on when the official notification would be issued.
