PANAJI: Goa police have submitted the draft of the ‘Goa Police Bill’ to the State govt yet again. The draft Act is based on MHA’s Model Police Act Bill and also contains changes as per 3 new Criminal Laws which are to come into force in the country from July 1.
Goa police have been trying to get govt approval for the bill for nearly the past 2 decades without success.
In order to address new and developing challenges, the draft Goa Police Act establishes the Police Service, police establishment boards, the Police Accountability Commission, and several other structures for police welfare and grievance redressal.
Although the draft bill has been around for a while, the Legislative Assembly has not taken it up for debate or adoption.
The Goa Police has unfortunately experienced multiple setbacks in the past due to a lack of authority to compile habitual offender history sheets. In actuality, the Police Acts of many states have been passed in accordance with the circumstances of the present.
