Jaipur: Rajasthan Police CID (Security) Intelligence on Tuesday arrested a contractual manager at the DRDO Guest House in Jaisalmer’s Chandan Field Firing Range on charges of espionage for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The accused, Mahendra Prasad (32), a native of Palyun in Almora district of Uttarakhand, was allegedly in constant contact with a Pakistani intelligence handler via social media, leaking sensitive information about India’s defence activities.
CID (Security) IG Dr. Vishnukant said surveillance had been intensified ahead of Independence Day to monitor anti-national activities. During this operation, Prasad came under suspicion.
Investigators found he had been providing details about the movement of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officers visiting the Chandan Field Firing Range—a key site for missile and weapon trials—to his Pakistani handler.
Following his detention, Prasad underwent joint interrogation by multiple security agencies, and his mobile phone was subjected to detailed technical analysis. Evidence confirmed the transfer of classified information related to DRDO operations and Army activities.
He was formally arrested on espionage charges, and investigators are now probing the extent of the security breach and whether other individuals were involved in the network.
Authorities said the case underscores persistent threats from foreign intelligence agencies targeting India’s strategic assets and reiterated the need for strict vigilance by personnel working in sensitive establishments.
