Panaji: With the onset of the monsoon season in Goa, Drishti Marine, the state-appointed lifesaving agency, has issued a public safety advisory urging tourists and locals to stay away from the sea and refrain from entering the water due to hazardous conditions. The advisory comes amid rising concerns over rough seas, strong currents, and slippery coastal terrain.
The agency has placed red flags across all major beaches in Goa, indicating that swimming is strictly prohibited. “Even shallow waters are unsafe due to powerful undercurrents and unpredictable wave patterns,” said Navin Awasthi, CEO of Drishti Marine.
Drishti Marine has further advised the public to avoid rocky areas, cliffs, and hilly coastal terrain, which become especially slippery during the rainy season, increasing the risk of accidents.
“Our lifeguard teams are fully equipped and patrolling the beaches, but we urge all beachgoers to take personal responsibility and follow safety protocols,” Awasthi added.
