PANAJI: A potential tragedy was narrowly averted at the scenic Dudhsagar waterfalls over the weekend when a 44-year-old tourist from Gujarat fell into the water while taking photographs. Quick action by Drishti Marine lifesaver Shahnawaj Nadaf saved the man’s life.
The tourist reportedly slipped and fell into the pool at the base of the waterfalls, prompting Nadaf to dive in with an inflatable rescue tube. The man was safely pulled to shore, highlighting the vital role played by lifesavers, not only on Goa’s beaches but also at popular inland tourist spots like Dudhsagar.
In addition to this dramatic rescue, the weekend saw several other incidents where Drishti Marine lifesavers intervened swiftly to provide assistance along Goa’s coastline:
*Hollant Beach:* A young girl from Bogmalo sustained a foot injury after stepping on a piece of glass while on a family outing. She received immediate first aid from an on-duty lifesaver and was later taken to a nearby medical facility by her family.
*Palolem Beach:* A 23-year-old man from Bengaluru collapsed after suffering an epileptic seizure while walking along the beach. A patrolling lifesaver acted quickly, placing the man in a recovery position. The tourist regained composure and was later handed over to the 108 emergency services for further care.
*Colva Beach:* A missing four-year-old child was safely reunited with his parents thanks to the efforts of lifesavers at Colva. A beach visitor brought the child to the lifesavers after he was found wandering alone. A search was launched, and announcements were made via the public address system. Within 15 minutes, the child’s parents were located and reunited with their son following proper identification procedures.
These incidents once again underline the critical role of Drishti Marine’s lifesavers in ensuring the safety of tourists and locals at Goa’s beaches and popular tourist destinations.
