PANAJI: A tourist suffered spinal injuries while boarding a tourist boat off Baina beach and was administered immediate medical attention, while a six-year-old Russian girl was provided first aid by lifesavers after she was scratched by a stray dog at Betalbatim beach over the long Easter weekend.
The weekend saw two single rescues by Drishti Marine lifesavers, while they also administered medical assistance and first aid in five instances and reunited two missing children with their guardians.
Baina beach: A male was boarding a tourist boat off the beach, when he injured his spine in the process. After the boat operator rushed the individual ashore, Drishti Marine lifesavers used a spine board to hand him over to the care of 108 medical personnel.
Betalbatim beach: A six-year-old Russian girl, who was playing at the beach with her parents, was scratched severely by a stray dog. An on-duty lifesaver rushed to her aid and cleaned her wound, before her parents took the girl to a doctor for medical attention.
Baga river: A 28-year-old man from Hyderabad was rescued from the Baga river, after he found himself in a pocket of deep water and panicked. Lifesaver William Soren, who was on duty, rushed to his assistance with a rescue tube and brought him ashore. The victim was later handed over to the care of his friends.
Calangute beach: A 34-year-old man from Karnataka was bruised after being struck by a wave. Drishti Marine lifesaver Vinod Gaonkar was on-site to attend to his injuries. At the same beach, Drishti Marine lifesaver Ramashish Rajbhar traced a missing six-year-old boy from Karnataka and handed him over to his uncle, after following handover protocol. A seven-year-old girl from Shimoga in Karnataka went missing, following which beach marshal Dhananjay rushed into action and traced the missing girl and reunited her with her family.
Talpona beach: A 54-year-old woman from the United Kingdom was swimming off the beach, when she got caught in a rip current. Drishti Marine lifesaver Nagraj Girap spotted her in distress and rushed to her rescue with the help of a rescue tube and brought her ashore.
Morjim beach: A tourist dislocated his shoulder while playing in the water. He was immediately administered first aid on-site by an on-duty lifesaver.
Palolem beach: A 22-year-old woman from Bengaluru twisted her foot while playing on the beach. She was immediately attended to by lifesaver Vasant Kamble, who escorted her to the nearest lifesaver tower on the beach.
