PANAJI: Drishti Marine, Goa’s government-appointed beach safety force, carried out multiple life-saving operations along the state’s coastline over the weekend, rescuing five persons from drowning, tracing two missing children, and providing first aid in three emergency cases, including to a 13-year-old boy stung by a jellyfish at Benaulim beach.
At Arambol beach, a 31-year-old tourist from Karnataka was rescued after he encountered difficulty while swimming. Lifesaver Harshad Chandekar, assisted by Raghvendra Kaskar on a jet ski, successfully brought the victim safely back to shore using a rescue board.
At Ashwem beach, a four-year-old boy from Belgaum went missing, prompting an immediate search by on-duty lifesavers. The child was located at another part of the same beach by l lifesaver Hiren Keluskar and safely reunited with his family after verification.
At Calangute beach, a 45-year-old tourist from Karnataka was caught in a lateral rip current and was unable to return to shore. Lifesavers Shubham Mukhiya and Shivam Rajbhar rescued him using a rescue tube. During the same period, a seven-year-old boy from Kolhapur was reported missing. After a nearly 30-minute search, he was traced at Candolim beach and reunited with his family.
At Benaulim beach, two women tourists aged 25 and 29 from Bengaluru were rescued after facing difficulty while swimming. Lifesavers Guitesh Gaonkar and Eshwar Malik brought both women safely ashore. At the same beach, a 13-year-old boy from West Bengal suffered a jellyfish sting on his right leg. He was taken to the lifesaver tower where Captain Naresh Gaonkar administered first aid. The boy’s condition later stabilised.
At Palolem beach, multiple incidents were handled by Drishti Marine personnel. A 30-year-old tourist from Jharkhand who suffered a deep cut on his leg after slipping on rocks was given first aid by Vasant Kamble and advised medical follow-up. A 79-year-old tourist from Karnataka was rescued after experiencing distress while standing in neck-deep water. Lifesaver Parshuram Tari rescued him, administered oxygen, and shifted him to hospital via a 108 ambulance; he is reported to be stable. Additionally, a 30-year-old tourist from Rajasthan who slipped in a rocky area and sustained injuries to his hand and leg was treated on-site by Vithoba Velip and stabilised.
Drishti Marine officials said the swift response of trained lifesavers once again helped prevent serious mishaps and ensured the safety of beachgoers across Goa.
