PANAJI: Drishti Marine lifesavers rescued four persons from drowning incidents along Goa’s coastline over the weekend, provided first aid to a Swedish tourist stung by a jellyfish, and successfully traced three missing children at different beaches.
At Arambol sweetwater lake, a 27-year-old man from Gujarat, who had entered the lake with a group of seven, found himself in difficulty after wading into water nearly two metres deep. Lifesaver Namdev Velnekar swiftly responded using a rescue tube and safely brought the man to the shore. The victim was reported to be in stable condition.
At Baga beach, a family comprising two women aged 45 and 19, and a 16-year-old boy, ventured into deep waters despite repeated warnings from lifesavers. Unaware of a strong rip current, all three were pulled into deeper waters. Lifesavers Saurav Kumar and Chandrashekhar, using rescue boards, along with Nand Kishor armed with a rescue tube, carried out a coordinated rescue operation and brought all three safely ashore.
In another incident at Baga beach, a six-year-old girl from Bengaluru was reported missing. Drishti Marine lifesavers immediately launched a search operation and located the child in another section of the beach. She was safely reunited with her family after due verification.
At Candolim beach, a woman tourist from Sweden suffered a jellyfish sting while swimming and complained of stomach discomfort. Lifesavers administered first aid on-site before shifting her to the Candolim Primary Health Centre for further medical evaluation.
Meanwhile, at Colva beach, a six-year-old local girl from Verna was found wandering alone during routine beach patrols. Lifesaver Captain Krishna Naik brought the child to the beach tower and made public announcements through the official beach vehicle. The child’s parents arrived shortly thereafter, and she was handed over following proper identification.
At Palolem beach, a three-year-old girl from Chhattisgarh was reported missing. After a prompt search, the child was found in another section of the beach and safely reunited with her parents after due identification procedures.
Drishti Marine officials reiterated the importance of adhering to safety warnings and remaining vigilant, especially in areas prone to strong currents.
