PERNEM: A case has been registered at Pernem Police Station in connection with a motor vehicle accident that caused damage to public property on National Highway 66 at Dhargal.
Police said that on February 4, 2026, at around 7.07 pm, an offence was registered after conducting an enquiry into Pernem PS MV Accident No. 03/2026 dated January 27, 2026, and upon receipt of a complaint from Shri Gautam Tari, Assistant Engineer, Sub Division III, Work Division VII (NH), Public Works Department, Colvale, Bardez.
As per the complaint, the incident occurred on January 25, 2026, at about 6.30 am near the Colvale bridge on NH 66 at Mahakhajan, Dhargal, Pernem. The accused, identified as Sukhvir, son of Shivlal Poonia, aged 38 years, a businessman and resident of Prabhu Enclave, Sapna Park, Ponda, was driving a Kia Seltos bearing registration number GA-05-F-3660 from Mapusa towards Pernem.
The complaint stated that the accused allegedly drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, without exercising proper care and caution, and knowingly drove onto the road divider/median, ramming into an electric pole erected on the divider. The impact damaged and uprooted the pole, causing an estimated loss of approximately ₹80,000 to the Public Works Department.
Further investigation in the case is being carried out by Head Constable 5541 Vinayak M. Talawnekar of Pernem Police Station.
