PANAJI: A 24-year-old driver from Nepal was allegedly wrongfully confined and brutally assaulted with a deadly weapon after a truck accident near the KTC bus stand in Panaji.
According to the complaint filed by Shankar Ram Bahadur Bika, a resident of Bhatlem, Altinho, Panaji, the incident occurred on April 8 at around 12:30 pm in a rented room near the KTC Bus Stand parking area. The accused, identified as Samir Khan of Panaji, had employed the complainant as a driver for a water tanker bearing registration number GA-07-F-8754.
Police said the complainant allegedly dashed the truck into a BMW car, resulting in a loss estimated at ₹1,20,000. Following the incident, the complainant reportedly left the job and started working for another employer.
Later, the accused allegedly intercepted the complainant while he was driving another vehicle, took him to his office, wrongfully confined him, and assaulted him with a deadly weapon. The complainant sustained grievous injuries, including a head injury and fractures to both hands, along with injuries to other parts of his body. The accused also allegedly threatened him with dire consequences if he disclosed the incident to anyone.
Police stated that the assault amounted to an attempt to murder. Further investigation is in progress with PSI Nitin Naik of Panaji Police Station.
