In 2023, police arrested 166 people and filed 121 charge sheets; in 2024, 157 people were held with 106 charge sheets filed. This year till May, 88 arrests have been made, with 24 charge sheets submitted. Convictions stood at five cases each in 2023 and 2024, with none reported in 2025 so far.
Sawant said police carry out prompt raids upon receiving information about peddling, maintain day and night patrolling near schools, colleges, tourist spots and vulnerable areas, and conduct awareness programmes for students and the public.
Initiatives include rallies, competitions, street plays, and awareness drives in coordination with various agencies. NCORD meetings are held at the district level for better inter-agency coordination, while the Anti-Narcotics Task Force—comprising police, Narcotics Control Bureau, Enforcement Directorate, Excise, Customs, Health, and Airport Authority—works to share intelligence and curb the drug menace, especially in the coastal belt.
